Canvas Stretching
We can replace a warped stretcher or build a new one for an un-stretched painting. Many artists will ship their paintings rolled rather than stretched due to the size or cost of shipping. We stretch paintings of all sizes. The largest one we ever stretched was 17 feet long!
A painting on canvas is usually stretched around a wood subframe. This can be hung as is or we can add a frame around it. There are a few different options when we stretch a painting. One option is to stretch the painting a bit smaller so the edges of the painted area wrap around the sides of the stretcher bars.
If you don’t want to lose any of the painting around the edges, we can also stretch it so the full painting is visible on the face. Usually this results in a white or unpainted canvas on the sides. If the plan is to hang the painting without a frame, we can paint the sides a color that complements the piece. A designer can work with you on selecting a color.
