WILL RICHARD
Will’s images record scenes from his home state of Maine to eastern Canada just short of the North Pole, as well as to Antarctica. His photographs include landscapes, villages and portraits of villagers, flora and fauna, aerials. Currently, he is working on a book The Far Northeast, recently produced a State of Maine calendar for the Department of Conservation. Ongoing activities include photographer for the International Appalachian Trail (8 years) and for the Smithsonian Institution’s Gateways Project (4 years). In 2004, his field time included a May through June trip to Iceland and Greenland with his wife, Lindsay.
He is a Registered Maine Guide with a PhD in Geography and an MA in Anthropology and served with the US Marine Corps. His work has been shown at LL Bean, Bates and Bowdoin Colleges, Maine Audubon, Québec / Labrador Foundation, Maine State House, Chewonki Foundation, Newburyport Art Association, Chocolate Church, and through the Smithsonian Institution’s Arctic Studies Center. In summer 2005, he will be returning to the Arctic and will later in the year co-leading a trip to coastal Labrador. In the spring of 2005, his work will be presented at the Smithsonian Institution at a Greenland Symposium.
