Upon entering our store you will be greeted by one of our friendly
and knowledgeable
staff who will help you lay your art out on one of our design tables.
She/he will talk to you about any ideas you have for the piece and will offer
any suggestions as to the treatment of the piece for the greatest protection and
display possibilities.
Although
a good artistic eye is something that can't be taught, there are certain rules
of custom framing which lead to good design that can. When followed, these
guidelines, well known to your custom framer, produce a beautiful and well-balanced
framing presentation that enhances the work of art without overpowering it.
For example, did you know that the width
of the mat border should never match the width of the frame? This tends to
draw the eye away from the art they surround. Or that a poorly placed
decorative element, such a a French line, can detract from the beauty of the
finished package? Why are mats used in a framing package? For
other Frequently Asked Questions visit our Framing FAQ page.
Your designer will guide you through the
decision making process and make suggestions based on their knowledge of color
and design theory. Together, you may decide that the piece should be
matted - possibly using multiple mats to achieve a desired effect. Once
you have agreed on that part of the frame package design, it will be a challenge
as well as fun,
to pick out just the right frame. Though there are literally thousands of
frame samples on our walls, you will find that the designer can help narrow them
down to the ones that really work with your piece. The additions of filets, French panels, French lines and beveled accents will all add to the
beauty of the end result.
Other things you will consider during the
design phase are the type of glazing as well as the type and technique of the
mounting process. Our suggestions will be based on our knowledge of
conservation framing and what is appropriate for the preservation of your art.
We help you make the right choice.
